Pool testing kits can be important tools to make sure your water is clear of algae, bacteria and other contaminants. They can also help you prevent surface deposits and stains from developing. The problem is that testing the water can be somewhat of a hassle because you need to do it so often. Here are a few tips for testing your pool water, and what you can do if you simply don’t have the time to make sure your water is safe.

Tips for Using Pool Testing Kits

One of the most important reasons for using pool testing kits is to make sure your water is balanced. This means that alkalinity, pH and calcium hardness are all within the proper range. There are other components to water balance, such as stabilizer level, water temperature and chlorine levels, but hardness, pH and alkalinity are the most important.

You should test for pH each day, and alkalinity once a week. Most experts recommend that pool owners test calcium hardness once a month.

It can be really easy, of course, to skip a day (or two, or three) of pH testing. But as long as the chlorinator and filter are working properly, you can miss a few tests and be fine. You could even potentially reduce pH testing to once a week as long as everything is working properly. You’ll need to make sure you test as often as possible, however, if the weather is warm, after it rains heavily, something looks off with the water or you use the pool a great deal.

Of course, if you’d rather not deal with having to worry about pool testing kits, you can get in touch with the professionals at Valley Pool & Spa.
